Vision & Mission

SLNA's vision and mission are rooted in the founding motto "Unity for Quality" and align closely with the global mission of the International Council of Nurses (ICN): to represent nursing worldwide, advance the profession, promote the wellbeing of nurses, and advocate for health in all policies.

Our Vision

Be the National Leader in fostering nursing's professional excellence in the public interest.

This vision calls on SLNA to be recognised as Sri Lanka's foremost voice for the nursing profession — setting the standard for clinical excellence, ethical practice, and professional development, while keeping the safety and wellbeing of the public at the centre of everything the Association does.

Our Mission

Raise the profile of nursing in Sri Lanka and support the contributions of nurses to improve the health of the nation.

SLNA pursues this mission through four interconnected pillars:

1

Promoting Nursing Excellence

Advancing continuing education, professional standards, and evidence-based practice so nurses across Sri Lanka can deliver the highest quality of care.

2

Unifying the Voices of Nurses

Bringing nurses together as one professional community and ensuring their collective voice is heard in policy-making, healthcare planning, and public discourse.

3

Strengthening Nursing Leadership

Developing confident, capable nursing leaders who can guide clinical teams, shape health policy, and represent the profession at every level.

4

Ensuring Professionalism Among Nurses

Upholding high standards of ethical conduct and accountability that reinforce public trust in the nursing profession.

These values guide SLNA's day-to-day work and its long-term direction as the national voice of the nursing profession.

Why "Unity for Quality"?

The motto adopted at SLNA's founding in 1943 reflects a dual commitment that remains central to the Association's work today: unity among nurses as a professional community, and an unwavering focus on the quality of care nurses provide to patients and communities across Sri Lanka.

Global alignment: SLNA's vision and mission mirror the International Council of Nurses' founding aims of raising nursing education standards and professional ethics for the benefit of the public, connecting Sri Lankan nurses to a worldwide professional network.
